This six-unit apartment building consists of simple stepped boxes that create outdoor terraces, creating needed density in housing while providing ample outdoor space usually not available in apartments. The building fits on a typical 50’x100’ lot, but could be replicated on larger lots. In its base format, six one bedroom units are created, and there are options for combining units into larger horizontal or vertical configurations, resulting in three or four bedroom units.
Because of its stepped nature, the building does not have an imposing mass looming over the street, and could fit well into low to medium-density residential and multifamily zones in Portland.
